Improving Achievement with Readability Measures

With a student population of over 209,000 students, including two large minority populations and more than 61,000 students whose first language is not English, HISD faces unique educational challenges as they strive to provide every student with the best possible education.

A top priority for HISD educators is finding ways to present information to students in a format and at an appropriate level that they can readily use and comprehend. HISD uses the readability ratings in netTrekker to meet the unique needs of every student, including their struggling readers and a large population of English language learners.
