"What should Social Studies look like in the 21st century?" Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation's (BCSC) Social Studies Textbook Adoption Committee asked themselves this question as they planned for the 2009-2010 school year. Their goal: to dynamically change the way they approach Social Studies curriculum.
The Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation serves 11,200 students in 17 buildings. Located in Columbus, Indiana, the district has the challenge of meeting the unique learning needs and engaging its diverse student population in learning. More than 35 different languages are spoken by students and over 40% receive a free or reduced rate lunch.
