Systems Administrator, Product Development

Position Objectives
- Set up and provide server systems management including:
- systems status monitoring, reporting and recovery
- online product performance monitoring
- systems and package management (i.e. apply patches, upgrade O/S levels, upgrade hardware)
- set up and deploy system usage monitoring and reporting – performed at the server and application level
- Version control systems
- Assist with Source Code Environment set up and management.
- Provide hardware support including evaluation, configuration, install, troubleshooting, monitoring and support.
- Implement disaster recovery capability by implementing and managing a comprehensive data backup, storage and recovery program.
- Contribute to hardware architecture design for future development projects.
- Provide analysis of costs, potential profits, risks, and benefits of hardware specific options that align with our Architecture.
- Support and help administer production systems as required.
Skills/Competencies Required
- 3+ years of strong experience supporting Unix/Linux systems.
- Strong expertise in setting up monitoring systems using a packaged solution; open source preferred.
- Experience with Implementing storage management and/or data recovery solutions for a multi tiered server installation.
- 2+ years experience performing server foundation software management.
- Some experience designing hardware and network solutions for multi-site infrastructure of highly transactional web based online systems.
- Familiarly and experience setting up and managing network routers, load balancers and switches.
- Hands-on experience with the specification, purchasing, configuration, and deployment of server / network equipment.
- High-level familiarity with a variety of tools:
- Shell Scripting: bash, ksh, csh, awk, sed, grep, Perl, Python
- Configuration Tools: Make, Subversion
- Applications: sendmail, nagios, mySQL, postgreSQL, ssh
- Services: DNS
- Protocols: snmp, http
- Detailed experience with at least one of the tools in each of the above categories.
- Some Knowledge and experience in administering RDBMS Technology.
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in teams in a dynamic environment.
